| Book Club: Henri Nouwen's "Life of the Beloved" |
 |
Monday, January 18, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Book lovers, food lovers, and God lovers are invited to dine and discuss Henri J. M. Nouwen's small spiritual classic Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World.
The book began as a simple request from one friend to another. Fred Bratman, a secular journalist and writer, asked his religious friend Henri Nouwen to write a book explaining the spiritual life in terms that he and his friends could understand, avoiding theology and technical language.
Nouwen's answer has become one of the most cherished books of our era. "All I want to say to you is, 'You are the Beloved.' To know God is to know that we are beloved -- beloved before our birth, beloved regardless of our successes and failures, and beloved even in the midst of great suffering and anguish."
Bring a small dish to share for dinner (vegetarian and meat options available). Let us know what you plan to bring. No need to finish the whole book before attending! For information and to sign up, contact Elizabeth Campbell. |
